Session 1 - Understanding SEND for Childminders - supporting inclusive practice in home-based childcare - (virtual)
We know childminders work differently from larger settings, and the role can feel quite unique when you’re the only adult in the space. This training has been put together to offer practical, down‑to‑earth support that helps childminders feel confident in creating inclusive, welcoming environments for every child. The sessions are designed to build confidence in spotting and supporting children with emerging or identified SEND, with ideas you can use straight away in a home‑based setting.
This is divided into 3 sessions
Session 1: SEN in home based setting
focuses on understanding SEND within the context of home-based childcare.
We will explore how SEND may present in young children and clarify the childminders' role in early identification, ordinarily available provision, and partnership working.
Session 2: Communicating concerns with parents/carers
will focus on communicating concerns to parents in a clear and supportive way. We will explore how to share observations, use helpful language and work in partnership with families when concerns about a child’s development arise.
Session 3: Simple environment changes
will focus on how the home environment can support inclusion and help children feel safe, regulated and able to engage. We will explore simple, low-cost changes and everyday strategies that can make a positive difference to a children with a wide range of needs.
Other early years practitioners are welcome to attend, as the training will be relevant to everyone, but it’s important to note that the main focus will be on practice within home‑based childcare settings.
These session are via Zoom.
